FAQ

Q. What are the requirements for admission into the Certificate in Police Leadership program?

A. There are no minimum academic requirements, however experience in law enforcement is necessary. Many of the assignments will ask you to reflect upon past experiences in applying the theory or will have you apply the theory to current situations.

Q. When can I start?

A. Most of the courses in the Certificate in Police Leadership program run according to two study terms: fall and winter. The fall term starts in early September and the winter term in late January. The exceptions to this schedule are the Advanced Police Leadership course and the Managing Police Performance: Coaching Skills for Police, which both have flexible start dates. The latter runs according to workshop schedules.

Q. How do I register?

A. Complete the registration form, and either fax or mail to us. We are unable to take registrations by phone.

Q. Can these courses be applied towards a university degree?

A. Yes. Our courses may now be applied towards Athabasca University’s Bachelor of Professional Arts in Criminal Justice, and Lakeland College's Bachelor of Applied Business: Emergency Services. Other credit options with other institutions are being negotiated.

Q. How long will it take me to get a certificate?

A. Each course (with the exception of Managing Police Performance: Coaching Skills and the Advanced Police Leadership course) are approximately 16 weeks long. To get your first certificate in a concentration you need three courses. If you were to take a course each term you would receive your first certificate in 1.5 years. Each subsequent ‘concentration’ certificate could be received in 1 year if you were to take a course each term. Taking more than one course per term is not recommended.

It would take 3.5 years minimum to finish an Advanced Certificate in Police Leadership.
