Kathrine Lincoln, MSc, Strategies for University Learning Instructor. Kathrine has an MSc in Clinical/Community Psychology from Acadia University. In addition to her part-time private practice as a psychologist she works part-time as a counsellor and therapist at Dalhousie's Counselling and Psychological Services.

Course Description

Strategies for University Learning

The primary function of TYP Studies Skill is to help students learn and apply study skills and self-management strategies that will increase effectiveness and productivity in the university setting.

Objectives

  • To gain knowledge about and be able to use appropriate study skills.
  • To become aware of learning styles and develop self-management and problem-solving skills.
  • To define goals and develop plans for attaining them.
  • To understand and be aware of cultural influences on learning.
  • To develop and maintain appropriate communication patterns and positive attitudes toward learning.
  • To increase self-confidence and self-esteem in the university setting.
  • To understand and know how to access resources in the university system.
