
Tony Amirault, BSc (Physics), BEd, MEd
Tony has been a physics instructor for the Halifax School Board for 29 years, teaching regular and advanced physics at grade 11 and 12 levels. He currently teaches physics at Halifax West High School. To deal with the difficulty that many students have with physics, Tony has developed presentation strategies and demonstration techniques that make the concepts manageable and therefore understandable.
Paul Keeler, BA hons (Engl), BSW, BEd, MA (Engl), Cert Adult Ed
Paul has been teaching Writing Skills for Academic Study for Dalhousie University College of Continuing Education and English Composition and Literature for Saint Mary's since 1995. Paul's excellent command of writing skills, his patient and insightful approach to learning, and his experience of creating a learning environment where participants feel both stimulated and nurtured are reflected in his evaluations from students.
Jennifer MacIsaac-Williams, BSc, BEd, MEd
Jennifer teaches math and physics at Charles P. Allen High School, and she understands the struggle many students have with math concepts. In the classroom, Jennifer supports a patient, careful exploration of fundamental concepts that establishes the groundwork for further studies in math. A key goal is to challenge previous math fears, and provide strategies that enable students to confidently embrace future math concepts.
Robert Nalepa, BSc Hons (Chem), MSc (Chem), BEd, MCIC
Rob has taught High School Chemistry for over 30 years at all levels including Advanced Level Chemistry and the International Baccalaureate Chemistry program. He is an Assistant Examiner for the International Baccalaureate Organization for Chemistry. He has taught for Dalhousie University College of Continuing Education since 1992. He is currently Science and Physical Education Department Head at Halifax West High School. He is the author of a number of Chemistry textbooks including the textbook used for the University Prep Chemistry course. He has won several awards for teaching, including the Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Science, the Chemical Institute of Canada Award for High School Teaching, and a Shell Merit Fellowhip Award. Rob understands the difficulty students have with learning Chemistry and is able to build their confidence through his clear presentations using a variety of teaching strategies. He encourages and supports his students to do their best.
Kathryn Reno-Horne, BSc (Bio), BEd, MEd, Cert Adult Ed
Kathryn has taught in Dalhousie's University Preparation Program since 1993 and is the Senior Instructor for the Math Program. Her teaching career also includes terms at a Teacher's College in Nigeria and at high schools in Nova Scotia. Students comment on her cheerfulness, her approachable manner and her ability to successfully communicate the concepts of math in a patient and relaxed environment.
